Home Plumbing Problems and Repairs

Like most home owners, you’re most likely on a limited budget for maintenance and home repairs. And all too often, plumbing issues are the last things that you are thinking of. Until there’s an emergency, most people don’t even think about the plumbing in their house. While some problems with your pipes could seem minor, they can be severe emergencies in the making. Instead of waiting until a leaky faucet becomes a more expensive migraine or a stopped up drain transforms into a massive water damage issue, call Mr. Rooter Plumbing to get the rapid and effective repair work you need!

Garbage Disposal

A common source of problems with home plumbing is the garbage disposal. Here at Mr. Rooter we have a few tips for preventing some of the most common sources of clogs or damage to the disposal.

  • Never dispose of sticky, starchy, or stringy foods, such as coffee grounds or eggshells.
  • To avoid unwanted odors try grinding a mixture of lemon peels and ice
  • Treat your disposal with a vinegar and baking soda mix on a monthly basis to avoid buildup and bacterial issues.

Well & Sump Pumps

Sump pumps are used to protect your basement from flooding and water damage by re-routing water away from the property and easily damaged areas. In the majority of cases the sump pump will be wired into the electrical system or plugged into a wall outlet. Most sump pumps are also equipped with a battery backup in case of power failures.

There are two main types of Sump Pumps:

  • Pedestal: mounted above the sump pit, a pedestal pump provides easy access for service and testing
  • Submersible: Set in the pit or well, out of sight

Sump Pumps in Action

The most important time to have a working sump pump is during heavy rainfall or other periods of overflowing water- such as from some sort of plumbing issue. When it rains a working sump pump will guide the water around your house’s foundation into a drain system, where it is moved through pipes and diverted into a sump pit or well for collection and elimination.
